Manchester United have signed midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain for £50.5m.
The 23-year-old Uruguay international has signed a five-year contract with the option of a 12-month extension.
He joins for a fee of £42.1m, with £8.4m in potential add-ons.
Ugarte becomes the club’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, taking their total outlay to just over £190m.
He joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon for £50.5m last season and made 37 appearances in all competitions as the Parisians won a 12th Ligue 1 title.
PSG are understood to have negotiated a 10% sale clause with Ugarte, with both clubs privately claiming they are happy with the deal.
“It’s an incredible feeling to join a club of this size—a club that is admired around the world,” Ugarte said.
“Manchester United is an ambitious club, and I am an ambitious player. I know how incredible the Manchester United fans are, and I can’t wait to experience Old Trafford.
“I am a person who is determined to succeed; I will sacrifice and give everything for my teammates. We will work together to win trophies and reach the level that the club needs to reach.”
United sporting director Dan Ashworth said: “Signing Manuel is another key target for us this summer.
“He is one of the best holding midfielders in the world with an excellent record both at club and international level. His quality, experience, and enthusiasm will be a great addition to our strong midfield setup.
Ugarte’s move to Manchester United was confirmed just hours after Scotland international Scott McTominay left the Old Trafford club to join Napoli.
Manchester United have charged a transfer fee of £25.7 million for the 27-year-old youth academy graduate, with a 10% transfer clause.
Earlier in the day, Manchester United confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Malley youth midfielder Sekou Kone from Guidars for a fee believed to be around £1 million.
United have spent nearly £600m on new players since Erik ten Hag became manager in 2022. Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui join the summer signings.
McTominay’s sale means the club has recouped more than £85m in revenue this summer.
