The inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama and his Vice President-elect, Jane Naana-Opoku Agyemang, is scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in Independence Square.

This historic event has received widespread attention, both domestically and abroad.

The event, which commemorates Mahama’s return to the presidency, is set to be attended by 21 heads of state, three vice presidents, four ministers, and twenty-four envoys. This unusual meeting emphasizes the international recognition of Ghana’s political change.

According to a release from the Ministry of Information, the swearing-in ceremony will also include luminaries from around the world.

The Ghana Police Service has announced thorough security measures for President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s swearing-in on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

According to a police statement, many routes in Accra would be closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to ensure safety and smooth operations. The Ako Adjei Interchange, AU Roundabout, State House, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Independence Square, and neighboring roads have all been disrupted.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes since vital roads such as 28th February Road, Starlet 91 Road, and Lokko Street will be diverted. Detours include Salem Avenue and Abdul Nasser-Gamel Road.

Attendee parking has been allotted at the State House Forecourt, Effua Sutherland Park, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture grounds.

The police have also reminded residents within the security zone, as well as dignitaries and members of the general public, to follow the guidelines for a peaceful event.
