Cristiano Ronaldo scores 900th career goal as Portugal defeats Croatia

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score 900 top-flight goals in his career as Portugal kicked off their Nations League campaign with a win over Croatia.

In the 34th minute, the 39-year-old doubled Portugal’s lead with a volley from the edge of the six-yard box from Nuno Mendes’ long pass.

It was Portugal’s 131st goal, a record 20 years after his first.

United defender Diogo Dalot gave Portugal an early lead, but Croatia responded before the break by firing the ball into their own net.

As well as Portugal, Ronaldo’s goals have come against Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and most recently Al Nasr in Saudi Arabia.

Portugal are top of League A Group 1 on points from their opener with Poland, who beat Scotland on Thursday.
